JPSM's Teaching Technologies

To assist our students with communicating and learning from professors that may either be at the University of Maryland, University of Michigan, or any other remote location, we have installed state-of-the-art Compressed Video Distance Learning Systems.

Interactive Video Classrooms

JPSM has three very advanced, high bandwidth videoconferencing systems ideally suited for distance learning applications. These systems were installed to provide a distant learning link between the University of Maryland in College Park and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, but also are configured for access to many other sites. The Tandberg MXP codec is at the heart of these video systems.  The systems are compliant with all video conferencing standards, and have many excellent features. They can run at any speed from 112kbps to 384 kbps in 56kbps or 64kbps increments via ISDN; they are also capable of IP video conferencing up to 3Mbps.  They also allow us to host MCU calls with up to 4 sites simultaneously.

If you would like to see a demonstration of or are interested in using a room, please contact Duane Gilbert, IT Coordinator at 301-314-5902 or dgilbert@survey.umd.edu.
The students in JPSM benefit greatly from having classes with faculty who are at the top of the Survey Methodology field without the student or professor having to travel.
